“So the bricks have history, too.”
"This was a Boy Scout project for an Eagle Scout in the seventies. They're all lined with bricks. These bricks came from Main Avenue when they tore it up to pave the road. So the bricks have history, too.
Originally there were ten, but when they put in the new sewer line, they took out two and said they weren't putting them back. Which at the time I thought, oh that's too bad; but now I think, thank God.
The Garden Club takes care of these. I'm in charge of these gardens this year. We're trying to get more perennials and annuals this year so they kind of take care of themselves because eventually the Garden Club may not be able to take care of it. We have a small membership, about half of what it used to be and the members are aging. A lot of them are in their eighties and would like to, but simply just cannot do it anymore. We're trying to get new members. The Garden Club also takes care of the plantings at the Municipal Building and they plant the Celeron Garden on Water Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.
So anyhow, well, I'm over here once or twice a week to weed and water. I'm working on the bricks, too. Some of them need to be set. That's about it."
Thank you Beverly, and Warren Garden Club for all you do to keep Downtown Warren beautiful!
